Widely regarded as one of the greatest film composers of his time, he has composed some of the most popular, recognizable, and critically acclaimed film scores in cinematic history in a career spanning over six decades. Williams has won 25 Grammy Awards, seven British Academy Film Awards, five Academy Awards, and four Golden Globe Awards. With 52 Academy Award nominations, he is the second most-nominated individual, after Walt Disney.[1][2] In 2005 the American Film Institute selected Williams's score to 1977's Star Wars as the greatest American film score of all time. The Library of Congress also entered the Star Wars soundtrack into the National Recording Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".
Williams has composed for many critically acclaimed and popular movies, including the Star Wars saga, Schindler's List, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Superman, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, the Indiana Jones series, the first two Home Alone films, the first two Jaws films, the first two Jurassic Park films, Hook, and the first three Harry Potter films.
In 1951 Williams was drafted into the U.S. Air Force, where he played the piano, brass and conducted and arranged music for The U.S. Air Force Band as part of his assignments. In a 2016 nterview with the US Air Force band, he recounted having attended basic Air Force training at Lackland base (San Antonio, Texas), after which he served as a pianist and brass player, with secondary duties of making arrangements for three years. He also attended music courses at the University of Arizona as part of his service.
In 1955, following his Air Force service, Williams moved to New York City and entered the Juilliard School, where he studied piano with Rosina Lhévinne.[10] During this time Williams worked as a jazz pianist in the city's many jazz clubs.

On February 24, 2022 Russian troops invaded Ukraine. Putin called it a "military exercise" but it was clearly well-planned strategy to reconquer Ukraine (...after the Soviet Union was largely dissolved in 1991?)
Ukrainians are fiercely determined to take their back their independent country. Women and children were sent to hopefully safe territories.
Ukrainian men stayed to become soldiers so they could rescue their homeland.
Since Ukraine is not a member of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) other countries cannot send military forces to fight alongside these heroic people.
Although military action was impossible, the United States had a quick response to Russia's invasion. On March 9--just two weeks after the invasion--the United States Air Force Band released "Prayer for Ukraine" with its own Ukrainian lyrics.
Since then many countries have joined in song for the people of Ukraine. Horrifically, now other countries plagued by war.
(We need to lift our voices in prayer and song-- in lyrics translated, perhaps with a spoken VoiceOver).
